Final Exam
Dear Headteacher,
I’m a
member of the student council at St Georges College North, and I’m writing to
you in representation of ES5 group, to ask for permission to carry on a search
with staff and students about the uses of mobile phones in education.
Our aim
for this research is to investigate if it is possible for teenagers to make the
most of an interactive class with mobile phones. Smartphone’s can be very
useful when looking for information on the Internet, but at the same time they
are full of applications that can distract children from their learning. We
hope to find out that the students will work well with the mobile phones in
order to use other types of sources.
Our
search will be based on studying how students behave if they are allowed to use
a mobile phone as an educational tool during classes. They will be able to find
useful information, gathering statistics about any topic studied in class, and
play fun and interactive games, from their smart phone’s or any other gadget
they already have. We need your permission and the staff permission to let us
observe if the students use the phones in a responsible way and record the
observations.
Another
kind of investigation we thought of doing, is to carry a survey and understand
how children’s would feel about the use of mobile phones, what would be their
expectations of the class behaviour and how do they think this will have positives
effect on their education. Our main questions for the survey are:
-Would
you like to be allowed to use mobile phones in class?
-Do you
promise to use it in a responsible way?
-How do
you think this will benefit your learning?
-There is
any potential negative effect you can tell us about?
After
gathering all the information, the answers of the survey and the results of our
observations, we have the idea of comparing them. See if the answers of the
survey, (if they commit to be responsible, etc..) are reflected on their
behaviour wile they are studying with any gadget.
Thank you
for taking the time to read the letter and hope you find interesting our
research and allow us to take it into action.
Best
regards,
Zarina

Well structured with a good grasp of the English language. I enjoyed how you wrote your questions down as well. Well done, improvements made. MDM
